Gillard Leads Fairfield Past Chicago
|
Joe Gillard never let the Titans get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his curveball, to pitch the Flash to a 6-1 win. The Flash are now 21-19, while the Titans fall to 19-23.
Gillard, who has sometimes raised the ire of coaches and teammates with his famously lackadaisical work ethic, turned in a spirited effort. The hurler struck out 10 in 7.2 innings and gave up 1 earned run.
Gillard, who is tied for 2nd in the NAL with a 1.07 WHIP, moves to 2-3 on the year with 66 strikeouts.
"Joe had electric stuff," said Fairfield manager Gary Altman.
