Racers Score Late to Upend Fireballs, 1-0

The Bowling Green Racers got a magnificent effort from pitcher Tokutomi Nishida, who kept Joplin hitters in check en route to a 1-0 Racers win at The Firepit. The winner was Bowling Green reliever Joël Barbier, now 1-1. The loser was Robinson Merrado. Sung-hwan Park got credit for the save for Bowling Green. It was his 1st of the year.
Neither team could produce runs. So, Gilbert Payet's at-bat in the top of the eighth was critical. With one out, the Bowling Green second baseman hit a sacrifice fly, to give his team a 1-0 lead.
"We're playing like gangbusters right now," said Nishida.
The Fireballs fall to 12-15 and continue their unimpressive start to the 2032 season.
