Detroit got a terrific game from first baseman Tony Martinez. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Coronado, 5-4. Martinez was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He went 2-3 with a home run. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Coronado reliever Fu-po Eng picked up the win, bumping his record to 1-1. Yoichibei Aoki was collared with the loss. The Death Stars, now 12-16, continue their slow start.

One important at-bat came with runners on 2nd and 3rd in the top of the eighth inning. Facing Detroit hurler Yoichibei Aoki, Andy Sabean, who is tied for 4th in the NAL in home runs with 6, drew a walk. The Phantoms went on to win.

"It all depends on which version of our team shows up," said Sabean. "When we put it all together, I think we're a great team."
