Death Stars 3B Fernández goes 3-for-5 in Win
|
The Detroit Death Stars beat the Scranton Escape, 7-4, at Hell Stadium. The win was largely due to the efforts of third baseman Raúl Fernández, who captured player of the game honors. He went 3 for 5 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 5 RBI and scoring once. Detroit starter Patrick Charbonnier was credited with the win after throwing 92 pitches over 7 innings. His record now stands at 2-2. Raul Nunez earned his 7th save in 10 tries.
With the game tied, 0-0, in the top of the third, Fernández had a key at-bat for Detroit. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Fernández hit a 3-run home run off Rino Nitisastro, making the score 3-0, Death Stars.
"This is not a one-man show," said Fernández. "A lot of the guys stepped up."
The win brings the Death Stars to 12-15, a soft start for a team that made the playoffs just last season.
