Starting pitcher Shoichi Ikeda pitched well enough to help the Coronado Phantoms beat the Bowling Green Racers by the score of 4-3. Ikeda, now 1-0, was the winner. In 5 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 2, walking 3, and allowing 2 earned runs. The Phantoms are off to a tough start, getting just their 8th win in 20 games.
A key moment came in the top of the fifth inning when Phantoms first baseman Giampaolo Marcovicci socked a 2-2 changeup to right for a 2-run home run, putting Coronado up, 4-2.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said Bowling Green skipper Walt Dobson, "and it cost us."
