The Fairfield Flash wiggled past the Vancouver Canadians, 5-4, at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Fairfield shortstop Yoshitake Morita earned player of the game honors. The win was Ralph Petersen's in relief. His record improves to 4-1. Alberto Ramírez took the loss for Vancouver. The win gives Fairfield a record of 11-8.
Late in the game, designated hitter Nesto Castillo had a big at-bat for Fairfield. In the bottom of the tenth, he hit a run-scoring single off Alberto Ramírez. The play gave the Flash a 5-4 lead.
"We had a chance to win," said Vancouver manager John Harrison, "but we didn't get it done."
