Nickless belts 2 home runs as Bombers Squeeze Past Astoria
In a close game at Bronx Ballpark, the Bronx Bombers edged the Astoria Argonauts, 4-3. Bronx catcher Bernard Nickless earned the nod as player of the game. He was 2-3 with 2 home runs and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. "Lousy" describes the Astoria performance in the early going.

The Bombers got a big boost from left fielder Mitsuharu Onishi who had a run-scoring walk in the bottom of the eighth inning off Argonauts hurler Jeff Schwartz. It was his 3rd walk of the season and put Bronx on top, 4-3.

"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said Astoria manager Tony Allison.
