McGowan belts 2 home runs as Aces Squeeze Past Seattle
|
The Columbus Aces defeated the Seattle Sasquatch, 6-5, in Roberto Clemente League action at Central Park Downtown Stadium. Steve McGowan received player of the game honors. The 14-year veteran hit 2 home runs, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 5. Greg Finley was the winning pitcher. Over 7.2 innings, he allowed 5 runs on 10 hits, with 1 walk and 7 strikeouts. The Sasquatch, at 6-13, have stumbled out of the gate.
A key at-bat came in the bottom of the sixth inning. With a runner on 3rd, the batter, Norberto Rivera, hit a sacrifice fly. It made the score 6-5, Columbus, and helped them go on to win.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Seattle manager Carl Best. "But we decided not to take it."
