Argonauts Win, Southern hits 2 home runs
Will Southern was the difference-maker for the Astoria Argonauts in what turned into a shootout with the Philadelphia Freedom. Southern earned the player of the game award after going 3-for-5 in the 17-9 Argonauts win. Astoria reliever Ernesto Villegas picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Bernard Edgar absorbed the loss. With the win, Astoria goes to 5-5.

Toronto, Canada-born Dave McLearn came through in the clutch. In the bottom of the third, with the bases loaded and the Argonauts trailing 4-3, he hit a bases-clearing double to right to put Astoria on top.

"It was one of those games where both teams were swinging the bat well," McLearn said.
