Freedom Nip Coal Miners, 5-4
|
Conditions were not ideal but Philadelphia and Antioch were able to put their game in the books.
The Philadelphia Freedom racked up a win at The Coal Mine, bumping off the Antioch Coal Miners, 5-4. Matis Barrier, who started for Philadelphia, pitched effectively for his team. Nobuatsu Fukumoto was credited with the save for Philadelphia, his 1st of the season.
One important at-bat came with runners on 1st and 2nd in the top of the eighth inning. Facing Antioch hurler Szeto Chieu, Kuma Ichihara hit a run-scoring single. The Freedom went on to win.
"Baseball is about momentum," said Ichihara, "and we feel we've got it in our favor after that win."
Losses have been rare for the Coal Miners, who are now 3-1.
