Phantoms Walk Off with 2-1 Win
|
The Coronado Phantoms put one in the win column with an opening day 2-1 triumph over the Albuquerque Cacti. The crowd at Phantoms Field watched Alberto Rivera put on a fine performance, for which he was named player of the game. Coronado reliever You-liang Rang was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Tom Murchison.
The Phantoms used some clutch hitting to beat the Cacti, a good example being the at-bat of Leonard Wright in the bottom of the tenth. With two down, Wright gave his team the lead, 2-1, when he hit a walk-off run-scoring single.
"It was terrific getting this win," Wright said. "We put in a lot of work to do it."
