Portland beat So Cal on the strength of starter Jian-guo Yang's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a 4-3 win. In 5.1 innings, Yang surrendered 7 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 1. He allowed 1 run. Tim Stady Jr. recorded the save for Portland, his 30th of the season.
Lai-hsiang Xiu took Ross Allan deep with two out in the bottom of the first. On a first pitch fastball, Xiu drilled a 2-run home run to right-center. It was his 28th home run of the season and put Portland on top, 2-0.
"The vibe's good," said Portland manager Ryan Blandford. "We've got to keep it going."
The 5th-place Beavers have won 4 in a row.
