Alain Picard never let San Francisco get something going. The Hawaii right-hander commanded his fastball in pitching the Islanders to a 4-0 win. António Méndez was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 4 of 5 save opportunities. The Islanders have an impressive 88-55 record.

The Hawaii triumph was a team effort. Not least among the contributors was Jim Burry. In the bottom of the sixth, the Hawaii third baseman hit a run-scoring single. It staked his team to a 1-0 lead.

"I found a nice groove out there," said Picard.
