The Eureka Hornets got a magnificent effort from pitcher Jorge Salazar, who kept Portland hitters in check en route to a 2-0 Hornets win at Waterfront Park. Eureka is now 81-61.

Eureka designated hitter Wayne Ford contributed to the cause with a run-scoring double in the top of the fourth. For the game, Ford was 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.

"First place," said Hornets manager Stephen Jackson. "This is right where we want to be."
