Hops Fall Short, 4-3, at Cabo San Lucas
|
The Cabo San Lucas Toreros picked up a win at Field de Los Layendas, knocking off the San Diego Hops, 4-3. Starting pitcher Phoenix Smith, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. Smith, now 10-19, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 10 hits, while striking out 8, walking 3, and allowing 3 earned runs. Cabo San Lucas now sits in 5th place in the Thurman Munson League Billy Martin Division at 64-77.
Also pitching in for Cabo San Lucas was center fielder Takaaki Hirayama, who hammered a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth. For the game, Hirayama went 2 for 2 with a home run and a walk.
"You work hard, day in and day out, hoping to give the fans something to cheer about. Today was a good day," Smith told the Cabo San Lucas Times.
