Roman, Islanders Clobber Beavers
|
The Hawaii Islanders clobbered the Portland Beavers, 13-0, at Aloha Stadium today. Hawaii right fielder Antonio Roman was named player of the game for his productive day. He went 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, a walk, and was hit by a pitch. He drove in 5 runs and scored once. Rodrigo Garza got the win, improving to 17-6. He pitched 7.2 innings, giving up 5 hits and no runs, while striking out 8 and walking 1. The Islanders now have a record of 82-52 with the win over Portland.
Roman contributed a productive at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With runners on 1st and 2nd, he hit a 3-run home run. It was one of the critical at-bats that helped Hawaii get the win.
"That game had disaster written all over it," said Portland skipper Ryan Blandford. "I could feel it."
