Stogies Bang Out 8-5 Win Versus Eureka
The Havana Stogies topped the Eureka Hornets by the score of 8-5, with the biggest share of the credit going to center fielder Fernando Cruz. Cruz was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3 for the Stogies on the day. Havana reliever Ed Armstrong picked up the win, bumping his record to 4-3. Barend Bilderbeek was collared with the loss. The Stogies improved to a lofty 98-35.

Havana took a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning. With no one out, catcher Arturo Velásquez hit a 2-run home run that brought the crowd to its feet.

"We've got a great group of guys," Velásquez said, "and we're having fun right now."
