Pioneers Win, Sherrill hits 2 home runs
|
Vancouver and Columbus met at Central Park Downtown Stadium in front of a lively crowd.
The Vancouver Pioneers defeated the Columbus Aces, 9-6, in Thurman Munson League action at Central Park Downtown Stadium. Kelsey Sherrill received player of the game honors. The 14-year veteran was 2 for 4 with 2 home runs and a walk, while adding 5 RBI and scoring twice. Reliever Mitsuharu Shionoya picked up the win. His record improves to 3-1. Chris Riddle took the loss. Garry Strode recorded the save for Vancouver, his 39th of the season.
The contest featured some late-game dramatics from Vancouver first baseman Kelsey Sherrill. In the top of the eighth inning, with two out and the bases loaded, Sherrill drew a walk, driving in 1 run to help Vancouver seize the win.
"I'm just happy to help the team win," Sherrill told the Vancouver Times.
The third-place Pioneers improved to 71-61.
