Earthquakes Drop Rhinos, 5-2
|
The San Francisco Earthquakes topped the Rubber City Rhinos, 5-2, in Thurman Munson League action at The Rubber Grounds. The player of the game was San Francisco pitcher and Misato, Japan native Noriyuki Ikeda. In 7 innings, Ikeda surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 2. He allowed 1 run. Kunihiko Mizuno sewed up the save, his 7th.
The Earthquakes beat the Rhinos in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out single Juan López produced in the top of the fifth. Batting against Rubber City pitcher James Thompson, López gave his team a 2-0 lead when he hit a 2-run single.
Ikeda told the San Francisco Observer: "I don't know which I enjoy more -- being a ballplayer or the perks that come with being a ballplayer."
The last-place Earthquakes improved to 50-79.
