Havana Wastes Great Game by Oakes
|
Havana second baseman John Oakes pounded Hawaii Islanders pitchers at Aloha Stadium, but it was not enough to keep the Stogies from falling, 8-6. Oakes went 3 for 4 with 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. Mikey Altman, the winner, improved to 1-1. He held Havana to 2 earned runs on 5 hits over 7 innings, while racking up 8 strikeouts. Losses have been rare for the Stogies, who are now 10-3.
Also pitching in was Hawaii right fielder Antonio Roman, who hammered a 2-run home run in the bottom of the seventh. For the game, Roman was 1-3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2.
In postgame comments to the Hawaii Times, Roman said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
