So Cal starter Masafumi Tamura put a stranglehold on the Rubber City offense. The left-hander had complete command of his knucklecurve in leading the Republic to a 2-1 win. Pin-zhen Au got credit for the save for So Cal. It was his 3rd of the year. The win brings the Republic to 7-5, a promising start as the team looks to return to the playoffs.

This game went down to the wire. In the top of the tenth, Jon Pittman had a big at-bat. With one out, the So Cal designated hitter hit a sacrifice fly, to put his team up, 2-1.

"The game of baseball will test you," said Munenori Sato, the So Cal skipper. "This one tested us."
