Multi-HR Game for Baba in 5-2 Win
|
The exploits of designated hitter Motoyasu Baba helped the Portland Beavers defeat the Maple Marauders, 5-2. Baba went 4-4 with 2 home runs and a double, while scoring 4 runs and driving in 3. Jian-guo Yang, the winner, improved to 7-5. He held the Marauders to 2 earned runs on 5 hits over 6.1 innings, while striking out 6 and walking 2. Tim Stady Jr. recorded his 15th save for Portland.
One important at-bat came with runners on 1st and 3rd in the bottom of the third inning. Facing Maple hurler Will Caron, Teruo Sato, who is tied for 6th in the RCL in runs scored with 58, grounded out, driving in 1 run. The Beavers went on to win.
"This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames," Baba said after the game.
Portland is now 44-59. Maple is 62-38.
