Rubber City beat Portland on the strength of starter Tom Hanson's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a 6-3 win. Shinzo Sasaki was credited with the save for Rubber City, his 23rd of the season. Rubber City, at 54-41, sits in second place in the Roberto Clemente League Christian Latulippe Division.
The Rhinos got a big boost from right fielder Aidan Turgoose who had a run-scoring walk in the top of the first inning off Beavers hurler Iván Morales. It was his 35th walk of the season and put Rubber City on top, 1-0.
"Tom was throwing strikes, locating well," said Rubber City manager Larry Johnson.
