The Hawaii Islanders thumped the New York Mafia, 17-1, at Don Corleone Park. Jesús Solís was a big reason his team got the win. Solís was 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 3 runs and drove in 5. Allen Cox, the winner, improved to 10-2. He held New York to 1 earned run on 5 hits over 7 innings, while racking up 7 strikeouts. The Mafia, at 32-64, have lost 6 straight games.
Zane Mogeni, who is tied for 5th in the RCL in hits with 114, helped out the Hawaii cause in the top of the first inning with a run-scoring ground out. For the game, the center fielder was 1-3 with 2 walks and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 3 times.
In comments to the Hawaii Times, Solís insisted that he's not as disinterested as it often appears. "Haters will hate," he added.
