Wheeler, Chippewa Open R1 Strong with 6-0 Win
|
Don Wheeler and the Chippewa River Chiefs opened the Single A League Championship in brilliant fashion today, shutting out the visiting Victoria Vikings at The Reservation 6-0 and securing an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Wheeler, the River Chiefs right-hander, was named player of the game as he threw 6 innings of shutout ball.
The Vikings had trouble solving Wheeler, who surrendered no earned runs on 2 hits over 6 innings.
"Don's tempo and rhythm were good," said River Chiefs manager Bruce Leah. "He was the key to us winning."
The next game is scheduled for Sunday, October 10th, 2032 at The Reservation. The scheduled starters for the game are Juan Cruz for the Vikings and Jeff Stephens for the River Chiefs.
