Shamrocks Escape Red Bulls in 10, Now Lead Series 2-0
|
A big day on the mound from right-hander Jiro Watanabe was not enough to keep the Pacifica Shamrocks from opening up a healthy early lead in the Double A League Championship. The Shamrocks topped Watanabe and the Riverside Red Bulls 3-2 at McCormick Field today in Game 2, and now hold a 2-0 edge in the best-of-7 series. Watanabe threw 7 innings of 6-hit ball and was named player of the game in the loss.
The game was at a stalemate until catcher Conrad Zijlstra came to bat in the bottom of the tenth. Facing Riverside pitcher Jay Retter, he hit a 0-1 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Pacifica on top, 3-2.
"Our team showed some gumption," said Zijlstra. "I like it."
Game 3 is set to be played on Tuesday, October 12th, 2032 at Red Bull Stadium. The scheduled starters for the game are Orlando Garza for the Shamrocks and Ricky Bolden Jr. for the Red Bulls.
