Hamada, Coal Miners Sink Freeze Again in Game 6
|
The Antioch Coal Miners moved to within one game of the Triple A World Series today, downing the visiting Minneapolis Freeze at The Coal Mine by a score of 9-2. Coal Miners right fielder Ichizo Hamada was named player of the game after he went 2-2 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times. The win gives the Coal Miners a 4-2 advantage in the best-of-7 Triple A League Championship.
Staten Island, New York-born Fletch Hiller came through in the clutch. In the bottom of the first, with a runner on 2nd and the Coal Miners trailing 1-0, he hit a 2-run home run to left to put Antioch on top.
"There was a kid in the stands with a sign that said 'Antioch Coal Miners (probably) 2032 Triple A World Series Champions'," Hamada told reporters after the game. "I told him, 'Premature, but I like the confidence.'"
