Pioneers Get Close Win Over Earthquakes
|
The Vancouver Pioneers got a magnificent performance from pitcher Alejandro García, who muffled the San Francisco offense en route to a tight 3-1 Pioneers win at Golden Gate Park. In 8 innings, García surrendered 3 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 3. He allowed 1 run. Garry Strode closed it out for his 27th save.
Runs were few and far between in this one. So, Dan Rollins's at-bat with two out in the top of the ninth was crucial. The Vancouver shortstop hit a 2-run home run, to give his team a 3-1 lead.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Vancouver manager Emmett Brown said.
Vancouver has now won 5 straight.
