Blazers Pull Back to .500 With Win Over Bombers
|
The Bloomington Blazers picked up a win at Celestrial Fields at Hermann Park, knocking off the South Carolina Bombers, 3-2. On the mound for Bloomington was right-hander Loeck Jurgens, who played a pivotal role in the win. Jurgens, now 6-6, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 1, walking 2, and allowing 1 earned run. Toyotomi Nakano got credit for the save for Bloomington. It was his 11th of the year.
Had Sean Clark not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Clark hit a 2-run single. That made the score 3-1, in favor of the Blazers.
"We played hard and won," said Jurgens. "Sometimes, baseball really is that easy.'
Their 43-43 record puts the Blazers 4th in the Thurman Munson League Billy Martin Division.
