Savoca 3-4 to Pull Jaguars to .500
|
In a high-scoring contest between Jacksonville State and Jefferson, left fielder Jim Savoca was a difference-maker. Savoca earned player of the game honors in the 11-8 Jacksonville State win. He went 3 for 4 with a home run, a double, and 2 walks. He scored 2 runs and drove in 4. Jacksonville State occupies second place in the Hank Aaron League Willie Mays Division at 33-33.
Bill Montgomery provided some punch for the Jaguars. In the top of the sixth, with runners on 2nd and 3rd and Jacksonville State trailing 8-7, he lit into a sinker from Brady Kuhn, sending it out of the park. The 3-run homer put the Jaguars up, 10-8.
"Guys always talk about winning games because of the 'little things,'" Montgomery told the Jacksonville State Citizen. "Call me old fashioned, but I think baseball is about the big things -- like scoring more runs."
