Late Rally Gets Win for Mustangs
|
Kearny High left fielder Jacob Proctor had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Proctor went 3 for 3 with a double, 2 singles, and 2 walks, while adding 3 RBI, even as San Marin beat the Cardinals, 6-5. Proctor was named the player of the game despite the loss. Their 26-38 record puts the Mustangs 5th in the Hank Aaron League Willie Mays Division.
With his team trailing 5-4 in the top of the ninth, Tyler Eckel rose to the challenge. The San Marin catcher got hold of a sinker from Josh Brolin for a 2-run home run. The round-tripper put the Mustangs on top, 6-5.
"I'm proud to be a part of what we've got going on here," Eckel told the San Marin Today. "It's a great group and we're happy with the win."
