Tigers Come Up Short at Lerna
|
The Tioga Central Tigers and Lerna Lions provided some drama at Ballpark of Ecatepec HS.
In a low-scoring tilt between the Lerna Lions and the Tioga Central Tigers, Dean Woodworth was the difference-maker. The Lerna left-hander earned player of the game honors in the 3-2 win. Woodworth, now 5-3, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 9, walking 3, and allowing 2 earned runs.
The Lions used some clutch hitting to beat the Tigers, a good example being the at-bat of Brandon Sutton in the bottom of the sixth. With two down, Sutton gave his team the lead, 3-2, when he hit a run-scoring single.
"We squandered some opportunities," said Tioga Central manager Gabriel McKinnes.
The 5th-place Tigers have lost 4 consecutive games.
