Cardinals Fall Short, 3-2, at Pitman High
|
Pitman High overcame a superlative game from Juan Torres to beat Kearny High, 3-2. The Kearny High pitcher took player of the game honors in a losing cause. He threw 8 innings of 4-hit ball. Danny Ventimiglia converted his 16th save in 18 tries. The Panthers own a robust 36-21 mark.
Carlos Figueroa took Juan Torres deep with no one out in the bottom of the first. On a 2-2 fastball, Figueroa drilled a 3-run home run to left-center. It was his 11th home run of the season and put Pitman High on top, 3-0.
"This is a very good team," said Figueroa. "We have the chance to do something special."
