Panthers Fall to .500 After Loss to Chargers
|
The bats were silent much of the day at Managua HS Grounds. But Eddie Lannigan conjured up just enough offense to carry the Chargers past the Derby Panthers, 3-1. Lannigan was 3-4 with 2 home runs. Ryan Nichols picked up the win with 8 innings of work. He allowed 1 earned run on 7 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 9. On the season, he is now 8-0. The first-place Chargers now have a win-loss record of 33-21.
When the Chargers needed a boost, it was the light-hitting Lannigan who delivered. Facing Derby pitcher Matt Schwartz the top of the third with the bases empty, Lannigan hit his 15th home run of the year. It made the score 2-0.
"First place," said Chargers manager Jack Fannon. "This is right where we want to be."
