Vampires Come Back Late, Nip Tigers
|
The Santa Clara Vampires beat the Tenafly Tigers, 6-5 at River Otters Ballpark, in part due to shortstop Jan Cook, who nabbed player of the game honors. He was 3-3 with 3 singles and 2 walks. He scored 2 times. The last-place Vampires are now 19-32, the Tigers 25-26.
In the bottom of the ninth, with two out and the game tied, 5-5, third baseman Tom Conrad won it for Santa Clara. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Conrad hit a 0-1 fastball from Hudson Dewar for a run-scoring single, giving his team a 6-5 win.
"We need to get rid of the bad mojo," said Cook. "Maybe this win will help."
