Tigers Come Up Short at Santa Clara
|
The Santa Clara Vampires did just enough to sneak past the Tioga Central Tigers, 7-6, at River Otters Ballpark. Santa Clara pitcher Jeremy Schrimp earned player of the game honors. Santa Clara reliever Matt Reger picked up the win, upping his record to 1-1. Michael Nichols was saddled with the loss. The Vampires sit in last place in the Pete Rose League Alex Rodriguez Division with a record of 18-30.
Had Tanner Engel not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Engel hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 7-6, in favor of the Vampires.
"I know we have our doubters," said Tioga Central manager Gabriel McKinnes. "But I still have high hopes for this team."
