Late Rally by Panthers Secures Win
|
Gary Corbett did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Tenafly Tigers from losing, 10-6, to the Derby Panthers at Ballpark of León HS. Corbett went 4-4 with 4 singles and a walk. He scored 4 runs. The winner was Derby reliever Jason Hazzard, now 2-1. The loser was George Hall. Chris Gatz was credited with the save for Derby, his 3rd of the season.
Jesus Aquilar was a key contributor to the win for the Panthers. In the top of the eighth with two out, the light-hitting second baseman stroked a double to left-center. He went 1-3 with a double and 2 walks. He drove in 3 runs and scored once.
"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Aquilar told the Derby Daily News.
At 24-24, the Panthers find themselves in third place in the Pete Rose League Roger Clemens Division.
