Big Day for Crouch as Cardinals Down Poly, 14-9
|
Kearny High and Riverside met at Loggers Ballpark in front of a lively crowd.
Jon Crouch added some punch to the Kearny High offense, helping them outmuscle the Riverside Poly, 14-9. In the game, Crouch, who is tied for 9th in the HAL in runs scored with 43, slugged 2 home runs. He scored 4 times and drove in 6. The winner was Lou Butt, who threw 125 pitches over 6.1 innings. The right-hander was charged with 5 runs on 7 hits. Travis Wood earned the save, his 1st.
When the Cardinals needed a boost, it was the light-hitting Crouch who delivered. Facing Riverside pitcher Josh Bordner the bottom of the fourth with the bases loaded, Crouch hit his 12th home run of the year. It made the score 9-0.
Crouch told the Kearny High Gazette: "I was born for the big stage."
At 21-27, the Cardinals find themselves in 4th place in the Hank Aaron League Willie Mays Division.
