Poly Defeat Cardinals, 7-3
|
Fans at Loggers Ballpark were not deterred by the threat of rain. They came to see their hometown Kearny High Cardinals take on the Riverside Poly.
With second baseman Matt Block leading the charge, the Riverside Poly defeated the Kearny High Cardinals, 7-3, at Loggers Ballpark. Block was 2 for 3 with a double and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Riverside reliever Shinjiro Imai got the win, raising his record to 3-0. Chase Dufel was tagged with the loss.
In the top of the sixth inning, the Poly grabbed the lead when Andrew Withrow rapped a two-out double. Riverside was trailing 3-2, when Withrow hit a 2-run double off Chase Dufel to put his team in front, 4-3.
Withrow said the win provided a "big morale boost" for the team. "There's a good feeling in the clubhouse right now."
Riverside goes to 31-16. The win puts them 2 games up in their division.
