Commodores Chill Butler's Hot Streak
Saturday, May 8th, 2027
It was the best of both worlds for the Vanderbilt Commodores today at Ballpark of Barrow College as they defeated the Tennessee Volunteers 5-4 and also ended Jeff Butler's 21-game hitting streak. The 18-year-old Tennessee catcher failed to get a hit in 4 at-bats.
"Nothing personal against Jeff, we just wanted to win the game," said the victorious Commodores skipper. "We did a great job keeping him off balance and guessing."
When asked by reporters about his streak coming to an end, Butler frowned and said, "I won't lie and say that I'm not disappointed about my streak ending, but I would feel much better about things if we had won the game."
This year Butler has socked 39 hits in 123 at-bats for a .317 average with 16 home runs. He is getting on base at a .413 pace and his totals also include 35 RBIs and 29 runs scored.
