Barnes Bangs Out 5 Base Hits
Sunday, May 2nd, 2027
It was an almost perfect day. Indiana State right fielder Carl Barnes displayed a hot bat today, enjoying an outstanding 5-hit day. But something was missing -- the Sycamores failed to win -- they lost to the North Carolina Tar Heels 19-18. "Some days, Lady Luck is on your side, some days she's not," he modestly told BNN reporters after the game. His manager told the beat writers otherwise, "His hitting wasn't luck today. It's his solid approach to hitting. Carl is focused, patient and he hits to all fields. The more solid at-bats you put together, the more success you're going to have, and vice versa." The 20-year-old right fielder for the Sycamores collected 5 hits in 6 at-bats to get his name in the record book. Carl Barnes doubled in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, hit a two-run single in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, struck out in the 7th, walked in the 9th, walked in the 11th and singled in the 13th.
In 30 games Barnes is hitting .164 this season with 20 hits, 2 home runs, 13 RBIs, 20 walks, .283 OBP and has scored 15 runs.
