Mullins Blasts 3 into Bleachers Tuesday, August 22nd, 2028 Fans seated in the bleacher section at The Bird Stadium were taking cover all day long as Doug Mullins took aim, rattling three long blasts off the seats in a display of Herculean power. The big game from the Jacksonville Hellcats first baseman helped the club take the victory, 9-1, over the Killeen Black Knights. "I told myself not to press on the last one," he told reporters in the postgame press conference. "I knew I couldn't force it -- it has to be a nice easy swing." For the game, he collected 4 hits in 5 at-bats, drove in 6 and scored 3 runs. Doug Mullins grounded out in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off Jim Unknown in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Iwao Baba in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off José Canseco in the 8th. For the season Mullins is currently batting .305 with 11 home runs and 42 RBIs. In 56 games he has reached base at a .392 rate and scored 34 runs to date. |
