5-Hit Game for Matsumoto
Sunday, May 28th, 2028
Today at Long Island Stadium, Akihiro Matsumoto put on an impressive display.
The Long Island Ducks first baseman tagged New York pitching for 5 hits in 6 at-bats, but his teammates were unable to capitalize on the spree and lost the game to the New York Ninjas by the score of 10-8.
"The loss takes some of the joy out of it, but I'll take it," Matsumoto said. "5-for-6 ain't bad in any league."
Despite the terrific performance, the Ducks manager was unwilling to offer his first baseman much praise, saying he holds his "whole roster" accountable for losses.
"Akihiro told me 'Coach, I had 5 hits' and I said 'Well that's great, but it looks like we needed one more from you,'" manager Bob Reece said.
Akihiro Matsumoto doubled in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, struck out in the 5th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
Thus far this year Matsumoto has hit .355 with 4 home runs and 12 RBIs.
