Red-Hot Bat: Hinkamp Collects Cycle
Saturday, August 28th, 2027
Denie Hinkamp of the Sandy Springs Spartans touched all the bases today at Confucius Field in the 15-8 victory over New York, hitting for the cycle. He teed off on Ninjas pitching for a single, double, triple and a home run. The feat is rare in baseball as it requires a game of no fewer than four hits and the unusual combination of a home run, which requires a batter to hit for some power -- and a triple, which requires a batter to have both speed on the basepaths -- and a favorable fall of the ball.
"The hardest part was the triple," confessed Hinkamp, "A lot has to go right for you to get a triple. It is real easy to get greedy trying to stretch a double and get thrown out. It's really hard to get a three-bagger." He finished his special day with 4 hits in 6 at-bats, 1 run batted in, 4 runs scored and a place in the record book.
Denie Hinkamp struck out in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, flied out in the 4th, doubled in the 6th, hit a solo-shot off Yoriyuki Kichida in the 7th and tripled in the 9th.
Hinkamp is batting at a .284 pace this season, picking up 103 hits in 363 at-bats with 11 home runs, 39 RBIs and 46 runs scored.
