Velásquez on Fire: 5-for-7 for Fairfield
Wednesday, April 5th, 2028
Even as a kid, Jesús Velásquez said his coaches told him the key to hitting was making contact, and letting everything else flow from there. At Durham Bulls Athletic Park today, Velásquez showed how well he learned that lesson.
The 25-year-old catcher had 5 hits in 7 at-bats for the Fairfield Flash, helping his team knock off the Scranton Escape by a score of 13-12.
"They always said, just keep your eye on the ball, don't overswing, make contact and you never know what will happen," he said. "That's all I did today."
Jesús Velásquez flied out in the 2nd, hit an RBI double in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, hit a solo-shot off Charles Walker in the 7th, flied out in the 9th, walked in the 11th, hit a two-run home run off Kanzaburo Araki in the 13th, singled in the 15th and walked in the 16th.
