Hernández Hit String Snapped at 26 Monday, June 5th, 2028 For 26 straight games, Luis Hernández tried to ignore his hitting streak. "But you guys in the media wouldn't let me." The 23-year-old So Cal center fielder can forget about it now -- it's over! -- courtesy of the Las Vegas Gamblers. They held him hitless in 5 at-bats and snapped his consecutive-game hitting string at 26. The streak ended on one good note, however, So Cal won the game, beating the Gamblers 6-2. But Hernández acknowledged that it meant something to him. "It was special," he said, "but I think other people make a bigger deal out of it than I do, or the players do. But that's what you're supposed to do; go out and hit the ball and try and score runs. It was a cool deal. It's over now. Let's try to start it all over again." Currently Hernández is batting .430 with no home runs and 14 RBIs. |
