Barbarro Powers Beavers to 12-5 Win
|
The Portland Beavers beat the New York Mafia, 12-5, at Don Corleone Park. The win was largely due to the efforts of right fielder António Barbarro, who captured player of the game honors. He was 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles. He scored 3 times and drove in 4. The Beavers, now 81-79, have won 5 in a row.
Phillip Lewis helped the Portland cause in the top of the second. With runners on 1st and 2nd and Portland trailing 3-1, he put the hurt on a fastball from Nobuhito Suzuki, launching it over the fence for a 3-run homer. The blast put the Beavers in front, 4-3.
"The vibe's good," said Portland manager Ryan Blandford. "We've got to keep it going."
