Vázquez Leads Hops to 3-1 Win over Republic
|
In a low-scoring game between San Diego and So Cal, pitcher Juan Vázquez was excellent. The San Diego right-hander was named the player of the game in San Diego's 3-1 win. The last-place Hops are now 57-104, the Republic 112-49.
Vázquez was the winning pitcher. He raised his season record to 5-12. In 8 innings of work, Vázquez gave up 1 earned run on 3 hits, while striking out 7. The Republic were never able to generate much offense.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" San Diego manager Randy England said.
