Mafia Beat Codebreakers, 6-5
|
Though the conditions were not ideal, the New York Mafia and Columbus Codebreakers came back from a rain delay to finish their game.
Columbus first baseman Tokutomi Kogawa had a good game in a losing cause. His team fell, 6-5, to New York at Central Park Downtown Stadium. Kogawa went 2-4 with a home run and a double. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Curt Rhodes earned the win for New York. He lasted 6 innings, allowing 4 earned runs on 5 hits, while striking out 3. With the win, he raised his record to 17-11.
Had Octávio García not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, García hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Mafia.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," García said.
New York, now 71-88, holds 5th place in the Roberto Clemente League William Atteberry Division.
