Lewis Leads Charge, Portland Blasts Hornets
|
The Nest was the site for Thurman Munson League action featuring the Eureka Hornets and Portland Beavers.
The Portland Beavers downed the Eureka Hornets, 14-3, at The Nest. The Beavers were led by Phillip Lewis, who captured player of the game honors. He was 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 6. Iván Morales was the winning pitcher. Over 5 innings, he allowed 1 run on 9 hits, with 1 walk and 3 strikeouts.
Lewis contributed a big hit, a grand slam home run, for Portland in the top of the second. With his team trailing 1-0, Lewis took a fastball from Hidetada Abe and stroked the home run to left-center. His 3rd home run of the season allowed the Beavers to leap in front, 4-1.
"Big team win," Lewis said later.
At 76-78, the Beavers find themselves in 4th place in the Thurman Munson League Sparky Anderson Division.
